The vertical ball grinder is also called agitation ball grinder. It is composed of a vertical cylinder with a jacket and specially designed agitators which are stick shaped and installed crosswise in the agitation shaft in several layers. The cylinder is filled with grinding medium which are mainly 6mm~12mm steel balls. The balls loading volume doesn't exceed 75% of the cylinder volume and is the best when the paint quantity is above balls. During actual working, adjust balls loading quantity according to whether balls will overflow and the dispersion efficiency. When the agitator runs, it will bring the grinding medium to move. The strong strike and shearing produced by balls and paint paste can disperse pigments. The pump recycles the paint in the cylinder, so it disperses the pigment evenly. The jacket is filled with cooling water for coo ling. After dispersion fineness is acceptable, pump the paint out in the cylinder. The ball movement results from mechanical agitation whose energy is far above the energy produced by balls falling down in the overfall status. Besides, all balls rather than partial ones strike and rub, so the dispersion efficiency exceeds horizontal ball grinder and is only inferior to the sand mill. It can disperse all kinds of color paste including those mixed by pigment that is difficult to be dispersed. The viscosity range of the paint that the vertical ball grinder can suit for is wider and it is about 0.4~~2.5Pa.S. Its largest demerit is not suitable for dispersing shallow color paste due to use of steel balls and has high noise. In addition to those, color change is not so easy.
