  • Switzerland Seizes More False Euro Bills in 2007
  • Source:Xinhua  Date:July-05-2008  Editor:CMO
  • Swiss police seized a total of 3,389 counterfeit euro bills in 2007, more than twice the number in 2006, the official Swissinfo news website reported on Friday.

The most popular note with counterfeiters was 100 euros, which accounted for 40 percent of the seizures, followed by 50 euros (30 percent) and 200 euros (16 percent), according to figures released by the Federal Police Office.

The fact that 70 percent of the notes had been made by the same method suggests that only a limited number of workshops are involved, the police said.

But while the figure for false euros rose dramatically, the number of forged U.S. dollar bills seized dropped from 2,482 in 2006 to 1,579 in 2007, showing that counterfeiters are increasingly turning their interest from U.S. dollars to euros, the police added.
