The U.S. dollar traded at the upper 106 yen level early Friday in Tokyo.

At 9 a.m., the dollar was quoted at 106.69-74 yen, compared with 106.69-79 yen in New York and 106.03-04 yen in Tokyo at 5 p.m. Thursday.

The euro traded at 1.5683-5686 dollars and 167.35-40 yen, against late Thursday's quotes of 1.5699-5709 dollars and 167.50- 60 yen in New York and 1.5866-5867 dollars and 168.23-27 yen in Tokyo.
