The Antibiotic Department is one of the four major departments fully authorized by Shanghai Pharmaceutical (Group) Corporation, and also the main force in the group in its implementation of the strategy of “Building An Aircraft Carrier in Chinese Pharmacy”. Our two major subsidiaries are Shanghai Asia Pioneer Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and Shanghai New Asiatic Pharmaceuticals Company with total assets of 3,000 million RMB.

Shanghai Asia Pioneer Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. is the “cradle of antibiotics in China”, where the first penicillin in China came into being, while Shanghai New Asiatic Pharmaceuticals Company is a forerunner in Chinese pharmaceutical industry, whose brand and quality has enjoyed a high reputation at home and abroad in its development of nearly 80 years. The Antibiotic Department produces a whole range of anti-infectious medicines, hence a specialized pharmaceutical manufacturer with the richest varieties and features in China. Meanwhile, it lays special emphasis on developing several series of medicines such as cardiovascular drugs, antineoplastic drugs, digestants, and drugs of external use.

The Antibiotic Department mainly targets on developing anti-infectives at the moment. Thus we are trying to absorb and train qualified personnel, focusing on preferential brands, investing more on critical technology, integrating the resources within the enterprise, perfecting the construction of industrial chains of three major series: 6APA, 7ACA, and 7ADCA, and completing the strategic research and planning. The operation of research & development, marketing, purchasing, brand-making, financial arrangement, and so on has been highly centralized and unified. The “intensification” has reduced the cost for the enterprise and evidently enhanced our competitive capacity through differentiation. And the reforging of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) has furthermore secured internal mechanism transition, scientific decision-making, business development, and supervisory management control.

To sum up, the Antibiotic Department plans, within the overall strategic frame of Shanghai Pharmaceutical (Group) Corporation, to build ourselves into the largest cephalosporin production base in the Asia-Pacific region by 2010 and then a major antibiotics production base in the world, making a due contribution to the cause of “Building An Aircraft Carrier in Chinese Pharmacy”.
