XSKN is the vision of a Canadian artist and entrepreneur. In his ten years in China , he has combined his artistic talent with some hard-earned business and production skills to build a 70-person company that produces the finest and most original silicone casings (“skins”) on the market.

The XSKN factory in China is not a sweatshop. It is exemplary in its concern for and treatment of its employees, providing them with clean, safe, and comfortable working conditions and good compensation. It has been visited and photographed by a number of famous iPod accessory companies, including the owners of Griffin Technology.

Some XSKN Firsts

Sometimes an artist’s sense of design requires the manufacturing process to change, which has produced some significant innovations at XSKN.

XSKN was the first to produce a totally-enclosing case using a complicated mold procedure that changed standard silicone case design from a 3 piece mold to an 8 piece mold. A totally-enclosing case protects all edges of the device.

XSKN was the first to use a metal stub implant, which, while fully protecting the device with a layer of silicone, allowed the attachment of a belt clip.

XSKN was the first to produce a soft screen protector using TPU, a soft, truly non-scratch plastic. It became the world’s number one screen protector and has yet to be duplicated.

In effect, these three innovations created the industry.

What no one could predict was that owners of single devices would want multiple “skins”. With that in mind, XSKN started working on color and patterns.

XSKN has multiple designs and patterns available, mostly using the traditional silk screen process, which allows for small production runs of original artist designs. XSKN is unique in its welcoming of original designs and artwork.

XSKN developed a process for the controlled inlay of silicone, which allows for multiple colors to fully permeate the silicone casing, a desirable effect for some patterns. This labor-intensive process has yet to be duplicated by competitors.

XSKN was the first to develop an injection process for silicone, which permits the use of two colors on one case. Although competitors achieve a similar effect by using two cases, none of them have duplicated the injection process.
